My Teaching Philosophy
I believe in teaching life skills, in conjunction with the curriculum; in a safe, mutually respectful environment, reaching out to all modalities, while employing effective classroom management.
I am a mother first and an educator second. I approach each student and every situation in the same manner - with respect. I aim to be respectful with every interaction I have with students. My goal as an educator is to reach every student in my care. That may have nothing to do with instruction of the curriculum. I have no idea what each child goes through just to walk through my door each day. I aspire to reach my students in what ever manner they need on a daily basis. That could look like an extension for no reason given other than a student asked and the look in their eyes tells me all I need to know. That could mean that I take my lunch to help a student with a paragraph, because they can't string three sentences together, let alone write an essay. That may mean I give my sandwich to a student who does not have a lunch. It could be as simple as a heart-felt hello.
My goal as an educator is to interact with all of my students so when I am questioned by a parent I can say honestly say, "I did the very best I could for your child today."
I am honoured that parents allow me to educate their children. I believe that each child has something to teach me. I know that each and every child I encounter is awesome in some manner, it is my responsibility to find that awesomeness and celebrate it. I want each child who walks out of my room to think they are special - because they are!
