Running

I am a firm believer in running responsibly.  This year I am 43 years old and I hope to be running when I am 86 years old.  Therefore, I run responsibly.  I use a formula when I run.  I aim to run three times a week.  I run one 5K, that is flat and fast.  I run one 4 mile run, this will often consist of a pyramid.  The last run of the week is a long slow 10K.  My body requires a rest from running, that is why I started swimming and biking, so that I can be active every day that I want.

There is a school of thought in the training world about using rest and recovery as a method of training.  I believe in this and as a result I ensure that when training intensively, I take at least one day of rest for recovery.

I describe myself as a "forward motion" athlete.  All of my sports are preformed on one plane of motion.  Because I enjoy skiing in the winter, which involves different planes of motion, I have recently added some cross training to my routine.  Not only does the lateral movements in the cross training help my ski legs, it also adds some weight lifting that will be beneficial as I continue to age.

If you are considering taking up running I highly recommend getting professionally fit for your running shoes.  I purchase all of my running shoes from Runners Soul in Lethbridge.

If you are considering entering a triathlon I would recommend the Ft. Macleod Chiropractic Triathlon
