Scholarships - "An honour that I have not dreamed of" Shakespeare
I returned to university the year I turned 40. The fear of failure is a great motivator. I worked exceptionally hard for every mark that I earned.
In December of 2011, I received a letter from the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology to advise me that I had been chosen to receive a Jason Lang Scholarship. I was both shocked and delighted. As a young student I did not excel at academics, however as an adult I do have an outstanding work ethic. I work very hard on a daily basis and devote much time and energy to advancing myself academically. I remember the shooting in Taber and how Jason's Dad became a voice of forgiveness and anti-bullying. It is an honour for me to receive this scholarship. As a parent and a teacher I hope that I will be able to recognize bullying in my classroom and I will do everything in my power to prevent it and educate my students about the topic.

In August of 2013 I was thrilled learn that I was the recipient of the Ruby I Larson Scholarship in Education (Teaching of the Gifted and Talented).
The criteria for this award is: special interest and aptitude in the teaching of the gifted and talented demonstrated through course work, academic achievement and nomination.
Dr. Ruby I Larson was an etymologist, who began her teaching career as a elementary educator. She quickly noticed that "children learned best when presented with material in an engaging way and that self-discovery is a key teaching strategy" (Shorthouse 2011).
