Mind, Body and Spirit

It is my personal belief in order to be an effective educator, I must take care of my mind, body and spirit.

I have run for the past nine years.  When I began I could barley lift myself and an infant out of a chair.  I took a "Learn to Run" class, I started with running one minute at a time and finished the class by completing a 5K run.  I have graduated to 10K runs and have completed five half marathons.  I believe that my body should have a day off after running, so after strictly running for four years, I decided to add other cardio events.  I now run, bike and swim on a regular basis.  I have competed in several sprint triathlons and completed two Olympic distance triathlons.  Cardiovascular exercise provides a service that counselling can not, I find it not only helps me physically but also provides a mental release.

I eat a "clean" diet.  I have eliminated glutton from my diet, and I do not eat at fast food restaurants.  Since eliminating these two factors I have felt better not only physically, but I feel a mental clarity as well.

I feel that the physical exercise that I engage in, combined with the elimination of sugar, chemicals and trans fats from my diet are instrumental in my ability to function at a level to provide my students with the best teacher I can be, the best Mom, and wife.

As it my belief that physical exercise is important , and therefore it is very important to me that my students have the opportunity to get outside and move around.  In keeping with this, I do my best not to assign homework.  Students spent six hours a day in a classroom, they need the opportunity to breath fresh air.  It is my hope that if I can limit the amount of homework, my students will take the opportunity to go outside an move.

On the drop down pages on this page I have provided information regarding eating well and being physically active.
